Experience

2004-Present - Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum - Tucson, AZ - Web Developer/Systems Administrator

  • Worked closely with the Museum to develop and implement a web-based application for the surveillance and tracking of invasive species within the Sonoran Desert (Invaders of the Sonoran Desert). The data & application framework developed by the Museum is being used on a national scale to combat invasive species throughout the country.
  • Implemented a highly effective email spam filtering service reducing spam inflow by approximately one-thousand messages per day. This filter also included virus protection. The entire system was based on Linux with a very minimal implementation cost.
  • Rebuilt extensive portions of the public website converting it from static, non-compliant HTML code to dynamic, database-driven PHP code reducing maintenance requirements dramatically while improving overall performance and efficiency.
  • Developed various in-house web service applications including document management, directory services, project management and education management applications.
  • Significantly enhanced the network infrastructure security, performance and reliability by migrating large portions of the backend network from Windows-based to Linux-based servers.
  • Dramatically improved data access performance by migrating the existing complex Microsoft Access database system to a MySQL backend.
  • Reduced support costs by providing in-house technical support for all Apple Macintosh systems.
  • Supported a vast network infrastructure including Linux, Apple, Microsoft and Cisco network equipment over both LAN and WAN implementations including over 150 workstations and a dozen servers.

2001-2003 - PMC Technologies, Inc. - Exton, PA - Systems Administrator

  • Expert administration for a network of 10 servers and 35 workstations in a network of Microsoft Windows, Novell NetWare and Linux technologies.
  • Overhauled and maintained an IBM/Lotus Domino/Notes R6 system for LAN and WAN location communications.
  • Enhanced network uptime and reliability by incorporating network monitoring facilities.
  • Significantly reduced costs and improved performance of corporate telephone system.
  • Implemented a test network laboratory significantly reducing operating costs and increasing system reliability.
  • Performed complete rebuild of the corporate website.
  • Provided user and hardware support to resolve problems as they arose.

2000-2001 - Beaudry Motor Company - Tucson, AZ - Network Administrator/Support

  • Supported a computer network consisting of over 200 workstations in 3 separate locations including both Microsoft Windows and IBM AS/400 server and client technologies.
  • Addressed issues in information dissemination and distributed employee phone/ department listings via private intranet site.
  • Provided user and hardware support as well as purchasing and network development.
  • Provided professional advice to the Internet Marketing committee that led to significant cost reductions and improved vehicle sales.

1997-1999 - Lozier Analytical Group - Rochester, NY - Computer Support & Info. Tech.

  • Developed large data collection and reporting system that resulted in dramatically reduced entry time and entry error issues.
  • Designed, built and maintained company LAN from scratch.
