Open Source Cliq Initiative

After a discussion recently on TFUG I went in search of a console-based word processing application that would offer all the features of a \'\'\'real\'\'\' word processor, but be entirely text-based. Of course things like vim & emacs come to mind right away, but this isn\'t what we\'re talking about here. Think more along the lines of Word Perfect or Word of the early DOS days. Something with formatting, menus, help, printing, etc. all built into the interface. Something that\'s userfriendly and perfectly capable of complicated text layout.

What I found was Cliq. However, Cliq is not open source nor is it under any sort of development/maintenance. They continue to offer a Linux version of their software, but it requires the purchase of a key to install it. Even with the key, there are likely to be a great many issues with it\'s incredibly out-of-date requirements. Therefore, I suggest the FLOSS community start emailing Quadratron and request that they release their software to the Open Source community as a free (in all respects) product. Perhaps with enough prodding, they will see that it truly is in everyones best interest to do so. While the market for such an application is undoubtably limited, I can see several uses for such an application and as yet I\'ve been unable to find any alternative that already exists for Linux.

I hope more will join me in requesting this from Quadtratron.
